Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that the state is on the path to becoming a $1-trillion economy by 2029–30, led by sector-specific policies and inclusive workforce participation.

“With 34 sector-specific policies, ample land availability, a safe and secure environment, world-class infrastructure, and a focus on inclusive workforce participation, Uttar Pradesh is working towards becoming a more attractive destination for growth and investment. The state is on track to achieve a $1-trillion economy by 2029–30,” Adityanath said at the CII Annual Business Summit in New Delhi.

He also said that UP is one of the most loved tourist destinations in the country, with over 156 million tourists visiting the state last year, with around 40% of the footfall driven by the Mahakumbh event.

“Tourism not only creates employment opportunities but also contributes significantly to the state’s economy, and Uttar Pradesh has strong potential to grow further in this sector,” he said.

Turning the state into a manufacturing power hub

According to the Chief Minister, growth across multiple sectors is helping UP emerge as one of the country’s stronger economic drivers. “Today, about 55% of India’s mobile manufacturing takes place in Uttar Pradesh. Similarly, nearly 55–60% of electronic components are now manufactured in the state,” he said.

“If a state ensures quality agricultural output and successfully transforms itself into a manufacturing powerhouse, its growth becomes unstoppable. Uttar Pradesh is now witnessing an economic breakthrough and steadily fulfilling its role as a key engine of the national economy,” he added.

A threefold rise in per capita income

He said that over the past nine years, the state has managed to triple its per capita income.

“Uttar Pradesh, once seen as a state struggling for recognition and law and order, is now attracting large-scale investments. When we say economic growth, it doesn’t mean only economic growth, but its direct relation is with employment,” he said.

He underlined that a country’s progress is closely tied to its industrial base. “If we look at the parameters of economic progress for any nation, the stronger and more robust its manufacturing power is, the more strongly it will move forward on the path of economic development,” the chief minister noted.

From crisis to investment hub

Highlighting the transformation of the state over the past decade, Yogi Adityanath said the state has moved away from its troubled past. “Uttar Pradesh used to be desperate for recognition… today big investments are happening. Earlier there was one district, one mafia… now it no longer faces an identity crisis,” he said.

The chief minister credited the turnaround to policy direction and institutional support. “The change visible today in Uttar Pradesh… has come due to the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the timely suggestions and support of economists like N. K. Singh, and the contribution of industrial organisations like CII,” he added.
