Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (ZEEL) has launched its new sports broadcasting network, Unite8 Sports, as the company deepens its presence in India's expanding sports media landscape through a long-term partnership with FIFA and a dedicated sports channel portfolio.
The company said it has received the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting for the launch of four channels—Unite8 Sports 1, Unite8 Sports 1 HD, Unite8 Sports 2 and Unite8 Sports 2 HD—which went live on June 2.
The channels have been made available across more than 500 cable and distribution platforms nationwide, including major direct-to-home operators such as Dish TV, Tata Play, Airtel Digital TV and Sun Direct, along with several regional cable networks.
The launch comes just days before the FIFA World Cup 2026, scheduled to begin on June 11. The tournament is expected to serve as a key audience draw for the newly launched network.
Beyond football, the channels will carry programming across cricket, kabaddi, badminton, wrestling, boxing and other combat sports, reflecting the growing demand for diversified sports content among Indian viewers.
The channel launch complements Zee's broader football strategy following its partnership with FIFA, under which the broadcaster has secured rights to air 39 global football events in India through 2034.
The agreement covers marquee tournaments including the FIFA World Cup 2026, FIFA Women's World Cup 2027 and FIFA World Cup 2030, besides youth competitions, futsal championships and football-related programming.
The deal represents one of Zee's largest sports-content investments in recent years and underscores the company's efforts to diversify beyond its core entertainment business through premium live sports programming.
Commenting on the launch, Bavesh Janavlekar, Chief Business Officer, Unite8 Sports, said the network has been conceived as a multi-sport offering designed to cater to evolving audience preferences and rising demand for live sporting action across the country.
He added that Zee's focus has been on building a strong distribution footprint through partnerships across cable and DTH platforms to maximise reach and accessibility. The company is also gearing up to broadcast upcoming FIFA events across the network.
With nationwide distribution now in place and a pipeline of FIFA events extending through 2034, the launch of Unite8 Sports marks a significant step in Zee's efforts to build a larger presence in India's fast-growing sports broadcasting market.
