Over 2.28 lakh modaks were ordered on Swiggy in a span of 9 days during this year’s Ganesh Utsav between August 26 and September 3.
This means over 25,345 modaks were ordered every day, making the modaks the country’s favourite festive delicacy, on the convenience platform, the company said. Since last year, the platform saw 35% increase in orders made during Ganesh Chaturthi. This reflects consumers’ growing preference for quick commerce platforms during festive seasons.
Recent data shared by Swiggy revealed that customers across India placed over 1 lakh orders within one day of Ganesh Chaturthi (August 27). Among modaks, Mawa Modak, Kesar Modak, Coconut Modak, Ukadiche Modak and Kaju Modak were the top consumer choices.
Across India, Mawa Modak topped the charts with 8,742 orders, followed by Kesar, Coconut, Ukadiche, and Kaju Modaks.

In Maharashtra, tradition held strong with Ukadiche Modak leading at 4,460 orders, trailed by Mawa and Malai. Consumers also showed a preference for smaller packs, with the 2-piece Mawa Modak alone drawing 2,983 orders.
Orders on Swiggy surged threefold within a day, rising from 29,674 on August 26 to a peak of 1.02 lakh on Ganesh Chaturthi, August 27.
Across cities, Mumbai and Pune accounted for 44% of modak sales, with 69,240 modak orders and 30,433 modak orders. Nagpur, Nashik, and Amravati in Maharashtra followed.
Among other orders during the festival, aside from Mumbai and Pune, Bengaluru topped the chart and came third in the maximum number of orders made during the Utsav week. Delhi and Kolkata stood at fourth and fifth place. Nashik, Vadodara, Surat, Dehradun, and Patna topped the list of emerging cities that actively joined the festivities.
