Ola Electric's Roadster X series is being introduced with prices starting at ₹74,999.

Ola Electric, India's largest electric scooter maker, on Wednesday announced its entry into the e-motorcycle segment with the launch of its Roadster X series EV.

Ola’s foray into the commuter motorcycle segment, which constitutes 75% of India’s two-wheeler sales, is expected to improve its sluggish EV sales.

Electrification of motorcycles is crucial to achieve the government’s 80% EV penetration target for two-wheelers as motorbikes account for two-thirds of total two-wheeler volumes.

So far, electric motorbikes, made by a handful of start-ups, have found fewer takers, mainly because no large automaker was there in the market. Revolt Motors is the biggest player in the tiny e-motorcycle market. The company sold 7,350 e-motorcycles in FY24, as per Vahan data.

“Motorcycles are at the heart of India’s mobility landscape. With our electric motorcycles, we’re driving the EV revolution deeper into the core of Indian mobility. After transforming the scooter market and making EVs mainstream, our futuristic Roadster series of motorcycles is here to accelerate the EV adoption further and make electric the first choice for every rider in India,” says Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman & Managing Director of Ola Electric.

While its EV sales have slowed of late, Ola Electric emerged as the leading player in the EV market in January 2025, overtaking Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company which were ahead of the new-age firm in December 2024. Last week, the Bhavish Aggarwal-led company launched 8 new scooters across mass and premium segments under its S1 Gen 3 portfolio.

In the motorcycle segment, Ola Electric will compete with market leader Revolt and Bengaluru-based high-performance motorcycle maker Ultraviolette.
