West Bengal

In West Bengal, mid-day trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI) showed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading in more than 170 seats. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was ahead from her Bhabanipur constituency. The high-stakes contest will determine whether Banerjee’s All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) secures a fourth consecutive term or the BJP forms its first government in the state. Counting is being held for 293 of the state’s 294 constituencies across 77 centres in 23 districts under tight security. A total of 2,926 candidates are in the fray.

Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, the contest is primarily between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance headed by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) combine backed by the BJP, and actor-turned-politician Vijay’s debutant Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Early trends showed Vijay leading from Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East constituencies. Meanwhile, Stalin was trailing from his stronghold Kolathur. O. Panneerselvam was leading from Bodinayakanur while Udhayanidhi Stalin was trailing from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni.

Assam

In Assam, counting for all 126 Assembly constituencies began at 8 am. Trends at around 11:20 am indicated the BJP-led alliance was leading in nearly 100 seats, with the BJP ahead in 78 seats; the Indian National Congress, meanwhile, was leading in 24. The results will decide whether the BJP-led alliance secures a third consecutive term or if the Congress-led opposition stages a comeback.

Kerala

In Kerala, counting is underway for 140 assembly constituencies. The outcome will determine whether the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) returns for a third consecutive term or the United Democratic Front (UDF) makes a comeback. Trends around 11:36 am showed the UDF crossing the majority mark, with the Congress leading in 56 seats. Allies including the Indian Union Muslim League (leading in 23 seats), Kerala Congress factions, Revolutionary Socialist Party, and others pushed the alliance’s overall lead tally to around 92 seats.

Puducherry

In Puducherry, trends till 12:30 pm showed the BJP leading in 22 seats while the Congress was ahead in five. Others were leading in three seats, according to Election Commission data. Further updates are awaited as counting progresses.
