Breaking down the numbers
Thamma had a robust start with ₹24 crore on its opening day. On Wednesday and Thursday, the film witnessed a gradual drop in collections but maintained a steady hold even as the festive holiday momentum slowed.
The film has been ranked as the second-highest opener in Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe, just behind Stree 2.

As India’s growth story gains momentum and the number of billionaires rises, the country’s luxury market is seeing a boom like never before, with the taste for luxury moving beyond the metros. From high-end watches and jewellery to lavish residences and luxurious holidays, Indians are splurging like never before. Storied luxury brands are rushing in to satiate this demand, often roping in Indian celebs as ambassadors.
It has also marked a career milestone for Ayushmann Khurrana, becoming his biggest opener to date, surpassing the ₹10.69 crore opening of Dream Girl 2.
Thamma expands Maddock Films’ interconnected horror-comedy universe that includes Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya. The film’s mix of supernatural romance and humour has struck a chord with younger audiences, driving strong footfalls in metros and Tier I cities.
Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director of PVR INOX Ltd, said the film’s success reflects the broader festive momentum in theatres. “This festive season has been extremely encouraging for the cinema industry, and for PVR INOX as well. We witnessed a strong resurgence in moviegoing during the Diwali period... Building on that momentum, Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat have continued to perform well, resonating strongly with younger audiences… It brings a fresh and experimental take on the horror-comedy genre, backed by Maddock Films’ signature blend of humour, heart, and storytelling finesse.”
Industry analysts note that Thamma’s performance is a positive signal for Bollywood’s theatrical recovery. PVR INOX reported occupancy at 25.7% during Q2, with strong footfalls across regions during the festive week, driven by a diverse lineup from big-ticket entertainers to regional releases.
While Thamma needs to sustain momentum through its second weekend to approach profitability, its early success has reaffirmed audience appetite for genre-bending, big-screen entertainment. With steady word-of-mouth and a loyal fan base for the Maddock horror-comedy universe, trade analysts expect Thamma to close its first week near the ₹80–85 crore mark (India net).
