Meta is taking another big step toward making Reels a global, multilingual platform. The company has expanded its AI-powered translation, dubbing, and lip-sync feature for Reels on Facebook and Instagram to include Hindi and Portuguese, alongside English and Spanish.

Announcing the rollout, Mark Zuckerberg wrote on Instagram:

“Big news for Reels: we're launching translations using Meta AI in more languages. It's available for Hindi, Portuguese, Spanish, and English now, and we're working on adding more soon. Check it out!”

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri highlighted the need for the feature in a video:
“Most of the videos on Instagram are in a language you don't speak, but that doesn't mean you aren't interested in them.”

Mosseri demonstrated the tool by dubbing his own video in Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese, showing how creators can make content accessible to broader audiences.

The dubbed Reels carry a clear "Translated with Meta AI" label to indicate AI involvement. Users can turn translations on or off or watch the original version through the three-dot menu, then Audio and Language, then activate or deactivate 'Don’t translate'. Creators can also preview and approve translations before publishing via the new "Translate your voice with Meta AI" option while uploading a Reel.

Meta says the goal is to help creators reach global audiences effortlessly. The feature is free and available to Facebook creators with over 1,000 followers and to all public Instagram accounts in regions where Meta AI is active.

With support for four major languages — English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Hindi — Meta’s update opens the door for creators to share, discover, and connect with audiences beyond linguistic boundaries. Unlike other platforms, Meta emphasises creator control and viewer transparency, making AI-dubbed content optional and clearly labelled. More languages are expected soon as Meta continues its push toward a truly inclusive global Reels experience.
