The college mates were early spotters of a trend that has become a big vertical within the personal care space—male grooming, with a specific focus on nurturing beards. Identifying a gap in the online retail market, Beardo launched its first products—a beard oil and beard wash—in 2015. Buoyed by its success, the Ahmedabad-based company introduced more products and expanded to offline stores and salons. It attracted strategic investment from Marico in 2017 and has since roped in actor Shahid Kapoor as a brand ambassador. Beardo’s profits have grown 300% in the past two years and the company now plans to expand internationally.
