Volkswagen India has launched the updated Taigun at a starting price of ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), rolling out a mid-cycle update for its key Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) offering in India. The price points of the mid-size SUV were announced shortly after its unveiling by the German carmaker.

The model continues to be assembled at the company’s Chakan facility in Maharashtra and remains a central part of its localised product strategy. The refreshed Taigun is priced between ₹10.99 lakh and ₹19.29 lakh (ex-showroom), broadly aligning with its earlier positioning in the market.

First introduced in 2021, the Taigun marked Volkswagen’s entry into the mid-size SUV category. The model has since contributed significantly to the brand’s domestic volumes, with cumulative production crossing 1.43 lakh units, including exports.

Product and variant strategy

The latest update brings over 40 changes across variants, including design revisions and feature additions. Exterior updates include a reworked front grille, new lighting elements and refreshed alloy wheel designs, while the cabin gets upgrades such as a larger infotainment system, digital cockpit and additional comfort features.

On the powertrain front, the Taigun continues with its 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines. The 1.0-litre variant now gets an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the 1.5-litre engine remains paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Safety features include six airbags as standard and a 5-star Global NCAP rating.

Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said higher variants account for nearly 60% of Taigun sales, shaping the configuration of the updated line-up.

Ownership proposition and competition

Alongside the launch, Volkswagen has introduced an assured buyback programme offering up to 75% of the ex-showroom price after three years or 30,000 km, applicable on bookings made till May 31, 2026.

The Taigun competes with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Skoda Kushaq in a segment led by the Creta.

The launch comes at a time when the mid-size SUV category remains one of the largest contributors to India’s passenger vehicle market, with annual volumes estimated at 10–12 lakh units and accounting for roughly 25–30% of total PV sales.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars operates in more than 150 markets globally. In India, its portfolio includes the Taigun and Virtus sedan, with manufacturing centred at its Chakan facility in Maharashtra.
