Sitaare Zameen Par weekend box office: Aamir Khan’s latest release, Sitaare Zameen Par, is going strong on the box office and it ended its first weekend on a high note, narrowly missing the ₹60 crore milestone. As per Sacnilk, the data firm that provides box office numbers, the movie has been riding on a strong word-of-mouth and carries a strong family appeal. It clocked in an estimated ₹59.90 crore (India net) across all languages by the end of Sunday.
The movie, which also stars Genelia Deshmukh, began its run in the box office with a respectable ₹10.7 crore on Friday but witnessed a sharp upward trajectory over the weekend. Collections soared to ₹20.2 crore on Saturday and surged further to ₹29 crore on Sunday, driven by growing footfall and increased occupancy in theatres. Sunday’s figures were buoyed by an impressive 72.31% evening occupancy in Hindi 2D screenings, with afternoon and morning shows also registering healthy numbers at 57.83% and 25.68%, respectively.
The Hindi version of the film led the box office push, contributing ₹30.6 crore out of the ₹30.90 crore India net during the first two days. This shows a clear indication of Aamir Khan’s continued dominance in the Hindi-speaking belt.
Before the release of the film, there was an apprehension among many industry watchers that the movie may not perform well, given that the last few offerings from Aamir Khan had fallen flat.
A point to note is that while Sitaare Zameen Par just fell short of surpassing Laal Singh Chaddha (₹61.12 crore) and Taare Zameen Par (₹62.95 crore), it has already overtaken Rang De Basanti to become Khan’s ninth highest-grossing film in terms of India net collections.
The actor’s all-time top five grossers remain unchanged: Dangal (₹374.43 crore), PK (₹340.8 crore), Dhoom 3 (₹271.07 crore), 3 Idiots (₹202.47 crore), and Thugs of Hindostan (₹145.55 crore).
Despite missing the ₹60 crore benchmark by a whisker, Sitaare Zameen Par has kicked off its theatrical run on a solid footing. With minimal competition in the coming week and continued audience interest, the film could see a steady run in the days ahead, potentially climbing higher in Aamir Khan’s all-time chart.
Sitaare Zameen Par is directed by R. S. Prasanna, and is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. The movie calls itself as a spiritual successor to Khan's 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, and stars him and Genelia Deshmukh. The movie is also an official remake of the Spanish film, Champions. The plot of the film revolves around a suspended basketball coach who must serve community service by helping a team of players with disabilities.
