TVS Motor Company has emerged as India’s top-selling electric two-wheeler maker in April 2025 after it dislodged Bajaj Auto from the pole position.
The Hosur, Tamil Nadu-based company sold 19,749 electric scooters in April, according to data sourced from the VAHAN portal. That compares with 19,011 EVs sold by Pune-based Bajaj Auto. Bhavish Aggarwal-led Ola Electric recorded 19,709 EV registrations last month. IPO-bound Ather Energy clocked 13,173 registrations in April. Hero MotoCorp ’s VIDA recorded 6,125 EV registrations.
TVS Motor ’s two-wheelers wholesales, including internal combustion engine (ICE) models, grew 15% from 3.74 lakh units in April 2024 to 4.30 lakh units in April 2025. Domestic two-wheelers registered a growth of 7% with sales increasing from 3 lakh units in April 2024 to 3.23 lakh units in April 2025. Motorcycles registered a growth of 17% with sales increasing from 1.88 lakh units in April 2024 to 2.20 lakh units in April 2025. Scooter registered a growth of 18% with sales increasing from 1.44 lakh units in April 2024 to 1.69 lakh units in April 2025. Wholesales of electric vehicles recorded a growth of 59% with sales increasing from 17,403 units in April 2024 to 27,684 units in April 2025. Two-wheeler exports registered a growth of 46% with sales increasing from 73,143 units in April 2024 to 1.06 lakh units in April 2025. Shares of TVS Motor rose 3% to hit a high of ₹2752.10 on the BSE.
Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto reported a 13% year-on-year decline in domestic two-wheeler sales in April 2025 to 1.88 lakh units while exports increased 4% to 1.29 lakh units. Shares of Bajaj Auto fell as much as 2% on Friday to hit a low of ₹7,880 on the BSE.
Hero MotoCorp , the country’s largest two-wheeler maker, dispatched 3.05 lakh motorcycles and scooters units in April 2025. Hero recorded 5.05 lakh VAHAN registrations for its internal combustion engine (ICE) two-wheelers in April, underscoring robust customer demand and strong retail performance. VIDA, the company’s electric mobility brand, sustained its strong growth momentum in April, with wholesale dispatches of 7,116 units of the VIDA V2 electric scooter. “As part of a planned operational strategy, the company implemented a temporary production halt from April 17–19 at its Dharuhera, Gurugram, Haridwar, and Neemrana facilities to facilitate supply chain alignment and conduct scheduled maintenance and infrastructure enhancements; normalisation is anticipated in May 2025,” the automaker said.
Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd , the two-wheeler subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, sold a total of 1.12 lakh units in April 2025, registering a 14% growth over April 2024 when it sold 99,377 units. In the domestic market, SMIPL sold 95,214 units, up by 8% from 88,067 units sold in April 2024. Exports also grew strongly, with 17,734 units shipped in April 2025, compared to 11,310 units in April 2024, marking a 57% rise.
