Ankur Jain,

Founder, B9 Beverages
age: 38
This computer science graduate from Chicago used to once fancy single malts but converted to craft beer when he set up his healthcare startup in Brooklyn. In 2007, he sold off that startup and moved back to India, where he started importing beer as he didn’t like any of the brews available. Now, CEO Jain is taking B9 Beverages places. The company’s five-year global partnership deal with the International Cricket Council (ICC), pegged at $25-30 million, means that spectators at stadiums abroad will be sipping its beer, Bira 91 (the ‘91’ stands for India’s country code). Jain calls the pact with ICC, signed last November, a key moment for Bira 91 as it embarks on creating the first global consumer brand to come out of India. At home, after disrupting the premium beer segment (which is just 10% of the total market), Jain has set his eyes on the mass market with sub-brand Boom, which will have two variants. Reportedly priced in the range of ₹130-185 for 650 ml, the extra strong variant will take on the likes of Kingfisher and Carlsberg.
