DESIGNER, entrepreneur, and actor Masaba Gupta has had a busy year. The 34-year-old founder of House of Masaba, who launched her makeup line ‘LoveChild’ in 2022, is working on the opening of four new retail outlets in the first half, and four more in the second half of 2023. In 2022, she also appeared on the second season of her comedy drama show Masaba Masaba on Netflix. ‘LoveChild’, Masaba’s vegan, sulphate- and paraben-free brand is primarily targeted at Indian consumers, but also ships to over 75 countries.
Masaba is now focused on new skincare and makeup products for ‘LoveChild’ and building an offline distribution network. For now, ‘LoveChild’ products are available in House of Masaba stores and online. “Beauty is a long-term game. You have to be on your toes all day,” she says.
In January 2022, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd. bought 51% in the ‘Masaba’ brand. Masaba believes the partnership has made it easier for her to launch her beauty business. The designer, known for her quirky prints and modern aesthetic, is working on a bridal range set to be launched by August. “We will have our first store at Kala Ghoda (Mumbai),” she says.
