Arjundas believes access to affordable housing is good business, and not just a slogan. That is driving Mahindra Lifespaces’ new venture Happinest— homes for families with monthly incomes of Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000. The first two Happinest projects of 2,500 homes will come up in Chennai and Mumbai. The company is also entering the luxury segment with L’Artista in Pune. The hectic activity has brought handsome rewards: Revenues were up 22% over last year, profits up 79%, and market capitalisation swelled to Rs 2,230 crore (as of June 30, 2014).
