When Girotra set up the India operations of Moelis in 2012, she found it tough going despite her 16-year stint with UBS. Moelis teamed up with Jefferies to advise Strides Arcolab on its $1.7 billion sale of its injectables business to Mylan. Girotra also acted as exclusive financial advisor to Financial Technologies on its $150 million sale of Singapore Mercantile Exchange to Intercontinental Exchange, and offered a fairness opinion to Jet Airways on its 24% stake sale to Etihad for $379 million. She has established a private funds advisory business and sits on the boards of several companies, including Mindtree and Novartis India. “The ability to pick yourself up after you fall is the key to setting up a successful business,” she says.
