The London School of Economicstrained Gauri Singh didn’t want to join her family business. Instead, she built an innovative “service, not servants” company in Gurgaon. The company trains and provides female domestic help for four, six, eight, or 10 hours a day. The inspiration came from her work with Gujarat-based NGO SEWA (Self Employed Women’s Association), which has ensured self-employment for some of the poorest women. Last year, the company reported a revenue of Rs 1 crore. It has 200 employees who own 20% of the company. It provides short-term shelter for workers who are victims of domestic violence.
