Mulye has one of the toughest jobs on this list—improving the asset quality of ICICI Bank’s corporate loan book. Exposure to sectors such as iron and steel, power, cement, and mining have been dragging down profits for the past few quarters; net profit for FY16 plunged 76% thanks to provisioning for these loans. To steer the bank through this phase, Mulye will have to dig into her rich experience at the group that began with project appraisals back in the early 1990s. But it’s her most recent job as the MD of ICICI Ventures, where she managed investments worth $2.5 billion, that could be useful while dealing with promoters and assessing future opportunities.
