Shah has transformed the Mumbaibased standalone pathology lab started by her father in 1981 into a chain of diagnostic centres in India and Africa, with 119 clinical laboratories, 1,761 patient centres, and 9,575 institutional touch points. Now, she has added another feather to her cap by successfully taking Metropolis public. It listed in April, at a premium to the offer price, despite choppy market conditions. In FY19, it catered to 8.9 million patients, a 15.5% growth over FY18, with revenue per patient and revenue per test going up. Its revenue grew 18.1% in FY19 to ₹760 crore and net profit rose 16.2% to ₹131 crore. Over the years, through her business acumen, Shah has attracted investors such as Warburg Pincus, KKR, and Carlyle. Even via the public issue, Metropolis landed institutional investors including Neuberger Berman, Grandeur Peak, and First State.
