Tafe has been driving itsway up the charts; last year it sold 148,000 tractors, establishing its position as India’s second-largest farm equipment player. The company has grown by 28%, with a market share of 24%. The tractor business is the main driver of growth for the diversified group, which also makes diesel engines, auto components, batteries, and transmissions. Srinivasan’s focus is on the growing 40hp to 50hp segment, where TAFE has outperformed market leader Mahindra & Mahindra. Srinivasan, who was recently appointed to the board of Tata Steel, plans to open a fifth tractor plant this year.
