Since topping the local investment banking league tables in 2017, times have been tough for Morgan Stanley as a debt crisis has hit deal-making. Despite the bank not being among the top three deal-makers, de Sequeira had a hand in several marquee deals like the sale of Essel Propack to private equity firm Blackstone. Last year, the bank’s global CEO James Gorman committed to invest more and also expand business in newer areas like infrastructure funding and fixed income. The responsibility of driving a lot of these will rest with her.
