When Jindal became the managing director of the pipe manufacturer more than a decade ago, Jindal SAW had a turnover of around Rs 300 crore. Today it is Rs 7,500 crore. Jindal, who lost the use of her legs in an accident at the age of 11, pushed a $600 million investment plan to buy stakes in firms in West Asia, the U.S., and the European Union this year. She is one of the most successful corporate heads—disability not coming in the way—but has maintained a low profile. Jindal has not only made all her factories disabled-accessible, but also won a bid to bring the world’s premier access and mobility conference, Transed, to India. She runs Svayam, one of India’s most influential not-for-profits, which works for better facilities for the disabled and the aged. A key agenda: help design accessibility for the disabled to historical monuments such as the Red Fort and the Qutub Minar in Delhi.
